Trust the crooked branch that guides you home
Stories of incorporating silver coins, birch trees and runes into your practice.
Hej there fellow witches,
Big welcome to the 6 new witches that joined this week! Reach out and say hi!
This issue is about those magical moments when the universe leaves breadcrumbs - from crooked birch branches pointing to hidden treasures, to three runes showing us that our breakthrough is closer than we think. Pour yourself something warm, get cozy, and let's explore how the simplest signs often carry the deepest magic.
Lunar Forecast
🌙Current moon phase🌙
These final days of November bring us the waning crescent moon - think of it like the last breath before sleep. If you're feeling that pre-December urge to purge your closet or finally delete those old emails, that's the moon's influence working its natural magic. Not me up at 2am getting distracted with organizing things.
Upcoming moon phase
December 1st brings us a new moon, and honestly, the timing couldn't be better for a fresh start.
Instead of the usual candle-and-crystal routine, try this old Swedish folk practice: Place a coin by your window (a representation of a coin works too - our ancestors dont mind if we adapt). As the new moon arrives, flip it over and whisper "ny lycka" (new luck).
Remember, our ancestors didn't have Instagram-worthy altars - they worked with what they had and focused on intention over aesthetics. Let's keep it real and effective.
Rune Wisdom for the Week Ahead
First Position - Inguz ᛝ (Upright) - Where We Stand
When Inguz presents itself, something's brewing beneath the surface. I always think of the first sprout pushing through soil. Inguz reminds us that growth happens in its own time. Have you been feeling antsy lately, like you're on the edge of something but can't quite name it? That's this energy right now. We're in the quiet before the breakthrough.
Second Position - Dagaz ᛞ (Upright) - The Crossing Point
Here comes the light-bulb moment where it all clicks. Dagaz is a brand new day, and represents an awakening. Dagaz shows up when we're about to figure something out. You know that feeling when you've been puzzling over something for ages, and suddenly it clicks and you have the answer? That's what we're heading into this week. This isn't about forcing answers - it's about letting them find us.
Third Position - Laguz ᛚ (Upright) - The Path Forward
The watery rune Laguz flows in like a good friend that always gives us solid advice. “Trust your gut”, it says. Often times those hunches are spot on. This rune is all about moving like water - finding the natural way through instead of fighting upstream.
The Story They Weave
Let’s weave it all together: we're all sitting on ideas and changes that have been quietly growing (Inguz). Soon enough, things are going to click into place (Dagaz), and the trick will be to roll with it rather than overthink it (Laguz). It's like when you finally understand something - you can't un-know it, you just have to work with what you've learned.

Weekly Norse Inspired Witchyness
Birch trees & knot magic.
When I was a child, I spent a lot of time in the woods near my home. There was one particular birch tree that always caught my attention - it had a crooked branch that seemed to point me toward things I needed to find. Once, it led me to a patch of wild blackberries I hadn’t seen before; another time, I discovered an old tin buried beneath its roots, holding a rusted key and a few marbles. I thought it was magic then, and I still believe it was.
Years later, I learned that birch trees were often called the "trees of beginnings." They are symbols of purification, protection, and renewal—qualities I desperately needed at the time. I felt drawn back to that tree, and on a cold autumn day, I returned with some twine, a small candle, and my intentions.
Standing beneath its branches, I whispered my worries and doubts into the crisp air. I tied a small knot in the twine for each one, binding them to the earth and to the tree itself, asking it to hold them so I didn’t have to. Then, lighting my candle, I asked the birch for protection and a fresh start.
I left that day feeling lighter, as though the tree had taken my burdens into its roots and grounded them for me. I still visit birch trees when I feel the weight of the world pressing down. They remind me that sometimes, all you need is to release what doesn’t serve you and trust the earth to transform it.
Try this practice yourself when you need release. It combines the ancient practice of knot magic with grounding practices and the heavy the symbolism of birch trees. No birch trees? No problem use whatever is available.

Why I Selected This Stone: Malachite is a stone of transformation and protection. It absorbs negative energy, aids in releasing old patterns, and helps identify emotional blockages. Keep near your workspace to protect against electromagnetic pollution
Use in release rituals during the waning moon phase
