Snow, Spirits & Sacred Space
As the snow falls, magic rises. Read about the strength needed for the season ahead, protective magic, and honoring the spirits
Greetings all,
Over the night we got our first snow here in my city. The first snow of the season always feels like such a magical beginning for Jul. I will begin sharing more Norse related Jul (Yule) related witchy tips in the upcoming newsletters.
As the snow has begun and the moon wanes I am passing on ancestral wisdom that speaks to us the need of release and renewal for our own well being. This week's letter carries information about working with the diminishing light - and its perfect timing for deep spiritual work as we prepare for the darkness of the season and festivities of Jul.
As always, I’d love to get your feedback on the newsletter and learn what you would like to see more of, less of, or any feedback you have in general my inbox is always open
Weekly Affirmation:
"With each passing night, I release what no longer serves. My ancestors' wisdom guides me through shadow to strength."
Lunar Forecast
🌙 Current Moon Phase 🌙
As we move through this week, we will see the moon continue to wane, which brings us a period for release, reflection, and letting go - energy I believe we can all use right now. What will you be working on letting go? I’d love to hear in the comments.
Lunar Look Ahead
The moon will continue it's waning phase throughout next week, the diminishing light working particularly well with energy for banishing work and cleansing. In Norse tradition, this phase was often used for cutting ties with harmful influences and preparing for new beginnings.
This week holds particular significance as we approach the winter months, a time when our Norse ancestors would begin their preparations for the dark season. Use this waning period to clear your space, both physically and energetically, making room for the new cycle to come.
What are you ready to release as the moon's light diminishes? Take time this week to contemplate what no longer serves your highest good.
Weekly Tarot Pull :
Note: while I live in Sweden, I am also an American and the political landscape in the US affects me, so that energy comes across in my collective readings as I feel so close to the energies the US carries. However, I also feel this week’s messages from the cards are broad enough to affect us all.
Cards:
Theme this week: Eight of Pentacles - Virgo/Mercury
Working with the energies of the week: Strength - Leo/Sun
Advice to take with us into the week: Four of Cups (Reversed) - Cancer/Moon
Interpretation
The theme of the week represents what energies we can expect this week as well as any particular patterns we, as a collective, might see. The Eight of Pentacles here calls us to approach our work with the dedication, like the craftsperson carefully hammering each coin, we're being asked to methodically build our resources, skills, and community bonds. This isn't just about personal gain - it's about creating sustainable foundations that will support not just ourselves but our entire community and to think ahead on how we can best serve with the skills available to us.
Strength appears as our working energy, but not in its usual gentle form. This is the fierce strength of conviction, the unwavering courage to stand firm in our values when others falter. The lion represents our collective power when we unite in purpose, reminding us that true strength lies not in gentleness now, but in our unified resolve to protect, defend and stand up what we believe in.
The reversed Four of Cups delivers advice we should take into this week when working with the week’s themes and energies - we cannot afford disillusionment or withdrawal. There’s been a sense of collective apathy, while now we're being called to rise and take decisive action. This isn't about returning to life's simple pleasures; it's about actively engaging in community building and mutual protection.
Overall Advice:
Focus on building multiple streams of income and creating financial safety nets. Consider skills that could be valuable in times of social change. Network with like-minded individuals to create support systems. Most importantly, channel any feelings of helplessness into concrete actions that strengthen both personal and community resilience.
Additional Tips for Star Signs:
Virgo: Your natural ability to analyze systems and create order is crucial now. Focus on teaching others practical skills while building your own financial security through multiple channels.
Leo: Your leadership is needed more than ever, but this isn't about showmanship. Channel your natural courage into standing firm for those who cannot stand alone.
Cancer: Transform your protective instincts into active community support. Your ability to nurture and care for others is a powerful form of resistance against apathy and isolation.
💎 Crystal of the Week: Labradorite
In Nordic folk tradition, this stone's shimmering colors mirror the northern lights - a powerful omen and sign from the gods.Â
Properties from a Trolldom perspective:
Guards against harmful magic and ill-intent
Enhances second sight and prophecy work
Strengthens bonds with land spirits
Perfect for dark season rituals
How to use it in Nordic folk practice:
Keep it on your divination table to strengthen your readings
Place it near windows during the dark season
Hold it while speaking with ancestors or spirits
Carry it when gathering herbs for magic
Like the northern lights themselves, Labradorite reminds us that magic shows itself to those who know where and how to look. Its shifting colors teach us that power, like nature itself, is ever-changing but always present.
🌿 Wellness Practice: Forest Whispering
The trees hold secrets for those who know how to listen. Find an ancient one that calls to your soul - you'll know it when you feel that subtle pull. Bring an offering of honey or fresh bread (the land spirits have always loved these simple gifts). Press your palms against its bark, introduce yourself like you would to an elder, and share what weighs on your heart. Then listen - really listen. The answers often come in feelings rather than words. These practices are especially important to maintain a relationship with the land wights as we move toward winter, and the land and trees become blanketed in snow.
âš¡ Norse Witchy Tip of the Week
Door Frame Protection
In Trolldom, doorways are seen as very important areas to work magic, they are the threshold to your home - a boundary between your safe space and the outside world. Whenever anyone or anything crosses this boundary, they're entering your energetic space and bringing their energy into your home.Â
A simple home protection ritual is next time you leave home, tap the inside of your door frame three times and whisper "watch over this space." Simple, subtle, and powerful - it creates a protective barrier that keeps the good vibes in and the nasty stuff out. Bonus points if you do it while holding a piece of iron, which was said to repel negative spirits.
